Hostelco 2018 consolidates its leadership position, reflecting the growth of the equipment sector
Hostelco, the leading fair in Spain and a point of reference in Europe dedicated to equipment and machinery for restaurants, hotels and catering, is holding its 19th edition with the participation of the most important companies in the sector, which will be presenting the latest innovations in a sector in constant growth. This coming April, Hostelco will be held together with Alimentaria, creating the largest national and international platform in the equipment, food, gastronomy and hospitality sector.
Organized by the Fira de Barcelona and the Spanish Federation of Associations of Manufacturers of Machinery for Hotels, Communities and Similar Industries (Federación Española de Asociaciones de Fabricantes de Maquinaria para Hostelería, Colectividades e Industrias Afines, FELAC), Hostelco will hold its next edition from April 16-19, 2018, coinciding for the first time with the International Food and Drink Fair, Alimentaria.
Thanks to the synergies generated by this new alliance, the two fairs will present the entire culinary and food value chain in a common platform, along with new products, technologies and innovative solutions in the areas of machinery and equipment for restaurants, hotels and catering. According to predictions, the two fairs will have a total of 4,500 exhibitors, 27% of which will be international participants from 70 countries, occupying 100,000 m2.
Hostelco will be located in pavilion 8, and will share pavilions 6 and 7 of the fairgrounds with the Restaurama sector of the Alimentaria fair, presenting the latest innovations in products, technologies and innovative solutions in the area of equipment and machinery for the hotel business; household items, tableware, utensils and packaging; technology, entertainment and software; coffee; textiles, clothing and uniforms; interior design, illumination and furniture; cleaning and laundry; vending; spa, wellness and complements; bread and pizza, equipment and tools; ice cream and confectionery.

The president of the fair’s organizing committee and the FELAC, Rafael Olmos, considers this edition « strategic » when it comes time to consolidate the recovery of the Spanish sector of equipment for hotels and communities, « whose sales increased by 12% in 2016, marking its fourth consecutive year of growth. Thanks to synergies with Alimentaria, Hostelco will bring together machinery and food into a single platform, increasing the business opportunities of professionals in the horeca channel », he concludes.
In addition, as part of its next edition, Hostelco will organize meetings among participating companies and the over 600 national and international buyers invited to the fair from Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, the UK, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, all considered key countries for the sector because of the dynamic nature of their markets. Both international buyers –principally importers– and national distributors participate in the sector dedicated to equipment, machinery and accessories for hospitality. In addition to these groups, representatives from 80 hotel, restaurant and catering chains will be participating.
Innovation and knowledge
Hostelco serves as a significant barometer for detecting opportunities and trends, in addition to sharing experiences and information and visualizing the innovation that drives the sector. As a result, the next edition will expand demonstration spaces in which the real application of the products and services presented by the participating companies can be seen.
Along the same lines, it is worth noting « The Hostelco Experience – Live Gastronomy », an area dedicated to demonstrations, showcooking and conferences –some of which will be focused on the world of confectionery, ice cream and baking– with some of the most prestigious international chefs, such as Nando Jubany, Paco Roncero, Andoni Luis Aduriz & Guillermo Cruz or Mario Sandoval.
« The Hostelco Experience » will also house « Live Hotel », a space designed by interior decorators specialized in hotel establishments that will recreate the reception, rooms, fitness space and spa of a latest-generation hotel, which will include the decorative and technology tendencies involved in a new concept of hospitality. The HOSTELCO Coffee Area will be another of the focuses of the fair, bringing together professionals and companies dedicated to machinery, equipment and accessories for coffee, from the roaster to the cup. In addition, championships, round table discussions and master classes aimed at promoting coffee culture will be held.
In parallel, a renewed series of Hostelco Awards will focus on companies, professionals and prescribers with a gala where the best manufacturers, distributors, planners, architects and interior designers from establishments dedicated to the hotel business will be selected by the jury to receive awards.
Presentation of the Renove Plan
The energy is one of the most relevant costs in the hotel industry. Latest-generation equipment can help to reduce electrical consumption, which means significant savings for hotel businesses. As a result, in collaboration with FELAC, FEHR has negotiated the Renove Plan with the Spanish Ministry of Industry regarding equipment for hospitality spaces, in order to make the substitution of machinery easier for the Horeca channel and to achieve a notable increase in energy efficiency. In the space referred to as The HOSTELCO Speakers’ Corner, the fair will house a round table led by FEHR in order to provide details on the Renove Plan and its modes of application for interested companies.
